Advantages of Salt-free Non-pickling Tannage


Nowadays, most tanneries are carrying out traditional pickling process, which will give uniformity and good dehydration, but consume large amount of salt and take a long time. In traditional pickling process, sulfuric acid, formic acid and salts are used. In recent years, pickling with less salts consumption is tried in some tanneries, it can give good uniformity and dehydration, less neutral salts consumption, save time and electricity. However, this process has limited safety range and is difficult to control. Salts consumption during pickling is the main source of pollution, furthermore, the use of strong acids is dangerous during pickling.

Salt-free non-pickling tannage can solve the problems above. The advantages of such process are evident. Firstly, it simplifies the formulation, shortens the time, makes the operation easier to control, never using strong acids makes the operation much more safe and avoids acid swelling of the hides/skins which may lead to poor quality. Secondly, no salts consumption helps reduce or eliminate the salt pollution. Thirdly, it make it possible to realize the cleaning leather manufacture.

In retanning, various types of leathers can be obtained from the wet whites to meet the different requirement, such as chrome leather, vegetable leather, or chrome free leather, just depends on the retanning agents used.
